  • Construction Fundamentals (RCSM 1) - replaces Introduction to Master Home Renovator Certification Program

Generally speaking, courses can be completed in any order. If, however, you are new to the construction industry, it is highly recommended that you complete Construction Fundamentals (RCSM Level 1) as one of your elective courses prior to beginning any other construction course. Though it is not a required course for certification, if you have no familiarity with reading blueprints, you’ll need to complete the Plans, Specifications and Drawings course as one of your electives before beginning the Estimating course.

Requirements to hold and maintain the accredited Master Home Renovator designation include:
  • A minimum of five years of related experience as an owner or senior manager
  • An active role in new home construction or renovation as a full-time business for a minimum of three years
  • Payment of the annual fee
  • You or your company must be a member in good standing with a local home building association
  • You or your company must be a member in good standing with The Alberta New Home Warranty Program. (This is a new requirement effective April 1, 2015. If you began the certification process prior to April 1, 2015, you are not required to meet this requirement).
  • You or your company must apply in writing for the PHBI accredited Master Home Renovator certification.

The right to retain each certification is held at the discretion of PHBI. The accreditation and the certificate remain the property of PHBI and may therefore be withdrawn. A company with a PHBI accredited Master Home Renovator in its employ may use the certification for as long as that person remains a direct employee or officer. Both the individual and the company must abide by PHBI's Code of Ethics and to the requirements to hold and maintain certification.

The certification shall be described by the individual as PHBI accredited Master Home Renovator. Decals exhibiting the PHBI logo on company renovation projects or on vehicles will assist in differentiating you from you competitors.
