It involves transmitting a message in a clear, concise, and meaningful way that allows the receiver to understand the message as intended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some examples of effective communication:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Active listening:<\/strong> When we listen actively, we focus our attention on the speaker and show them that we are interested in what they have to say. We can do this by maintaining eye contact, nodding, and asking clarifying questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clarity:<\/strong> Communication should be clear and to the point. It is important to avoid using jargon or complicated language that may confuse the receiver.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nonverbal communication:<\/strong> Nonverbal cues such as facial expressions, tone of voice, and body language can convey a lot of information. Effective communication involves being aware of these cues and using them appropriately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Empathy:<\/strong> Effective communication involves understanding the receiver&#8217;s perspective and emotions. This can be achieved by putting oneself in their shoes and acknowledging their feelings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Timing:<\/strong> Effective communication requires choosing the right time and place to convey a message. For example, it may not be appropriate to bring up a sensitive topic during a busy workday.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Misunderstandings and conflicts can arise due to a lack of communication or ineffective negotiation skills, leading to negative consequences such as broken relationships, loss of business deals, and costly litigation. To avoid such outcomes, individuals must develop and enhance their communication and negotiation skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.phbi.ca\/ab\/s\/product\/communication-and-negotiation\/01tAf000000ESnCIAW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Communication and Negotiation<\/a> course offered by the Professional Home Builders Institute (PHBI) in Calgary and Edmonton is designed to help individuals develop and improve their communication and negotiation skills. The course aims to equip learners with the necessary communication strategies to identify barriers, and differentiate between judging, assuming, and describing statements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon completing the course, learners will be able to describe five conflict styles, exhibit self-awareness, demonstrate active listening skills, speak assertively, understand the anger arousal cycle, prepare for a negotiation, conduct a negotiation using an understanding-based model, and deal with disagreements that may arise in a negotiation. Furthermore, successful completion of the course qualifies towards the equivalent of 30 hours of training towards a national Qualified Mediator Designation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective communication and negotiation skills are essential for personal and professional success. With the Communication and Negotiation course offered by PHBI, individuals can develop and enhance their skills to effectively manage difficult conversations, create inclusive and interest-based resolutions, and negotiate successful outcomes across all industries.
