Policies & Procedures

Students who feel they have proficiency in a given subject may choose to challenge BC Builder Training’s third-party proctored Qualification (Core Competency) exam.

Students will not be provided access to course materials in order to prepare for the exam. The challenge exam was developed specifically for BC Builder Training course content, which aligns with BC Housing’s learning outcomes for the subject area. A minimum of five business days’ notice prior to the exam date is required to schedule an exam.

Exam challenge participants will only be given one opportunity to pass a challenge exam with a minimum passing grade of 70% or greater. No other challenge exam rewrites are permitted.

BC Housing will not award CPD credits for an exam challenge.

Upon successful completion of the exam challenge, students will be eligible for a $100 credit* towards a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course. Students must request the credit from PHBI within 3 months of successfully completing the exam challenge.

*One credit per CPD course. Minimum course price of $500. Credit must be redeemed within 18 months from the date the credit is received. Restrictions may apply.

Students need to complete all online modules and assessments to be able to write the final exam.

Participants registered in an online course are required complete the entire online course before they take the final exam.

To have access to your final exam, you must complete:

  • Each online module including assessments and quizzes.
  • Course Evaluation Survey located in the Survey section.

Note: If you do not complete all the above your exam cannot be accessed, even if you have scheduled the exam with a third-party proctor.

Participants registered in a classroom course must attend all classroom sessions to be able to write the exam.

All courses are closed book exams, except for Building Codes, which is open book as participants will need to reference the material in order to complete the exam.

Students who fail to achieve passing grade of 70%, are permitted to do a maximum of two rewrites. Additional fees apply. This doesn’t apply to exam challenge.

You must achieve a grade of 70%.

We will issue a refund less a $50 (+ GST) administration fee, based on withdrawal conditions.

All refunds are issued to the original payment method and may take up to 6 weeks to process.
