Residential Construction Subject Matter Expert – British Columbia (contract)

Residential Construction Subject Matter Experts are experts in their fields, backed by many years experience working on site, selling or marketing homes, operating home building, renovation companies or working in other industry-related professions. The individuals must also be knowledgeable in the BC Energy Step Code and/or BC Building Code.

The Professional Home Builders Institute (PHBI) was established in Alberta in 1987, by builders, for builders. Since our inception, we’ve kept pace with the home construction industry’s ever-changing needs by designing and delivering practical education that meets or exceeds the national benchmarks established by the Canadian Home Builders Association.

In British Columbia, PHBI is branded as BC Builder Training, while in Ontario we are recognized as Training Ontario.

This position resides with the Professional Home Builders Institute (PHBI) and works alongside The Alberta New Home Warranty Program (ANHWP) and The New Home Warranty Insurance (Canada) Corporation (NHWICC).

The Alberta New Home Warranty Program Group of Companies (ANHWP Group) is Alberta’s most experienced and most trusted new home warranty provider and educator for homebuilders. As Alberta’s leader in new home warranty products and services for over 45 years, we continue to raise the bar to meet the needs of homeowners and our Builder Members.

Accountable for

PHBI has an immediate vacancy for Subject Matter Experts for our British Columbia market. These individuals will be experts in their fields, backed by many years experience working on site, selling or marketing homes, operating home building, renovation companies or working in other industry-related professions. The individuals must also be knowledgeable in the BC Energy Step Code and/or BC Building Code.

 

Work location and design:

Anywhere in British Columbia, remote position.

Project based contract.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and recommend new/revised content that meets and exceeds current construction standards, within established timelines.
  • Review and update existing course materials and exams to match learning outcomes and industry best practices, including developing new course materials as required.
  • Review and update existing content to make sure we build courses that are of the highest quality.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers and graphic designers to bring your work to life.
  • Monitor and report on industry trends.
  • Provide regular status updates to the Instructor Lead, including progress made and any obstacles encountered that may affect project deadlines.
  • Participate in curriculum/program reviews.
  • For instructors: facilitate successful classroom and/or virtual delivery.

Skills & experience

  • Availability to travel, if required.

Education:

  • Diploma or degree in a related field: new home construction and/or renovation, business, new home sales and marketing

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of related industry experience: new home construction and/or renovation, new home sales and marketing
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.
  • Expert knowledge in the residential construction industry or sales & marketing or business or renovation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with a multi-discipline training development team.
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail.
